Overview

Mahjong Solitaire is a single-player tile-matching game using Mahjong tiles arranged in layered patterns. Unlike the traditional four-player game, you remove matching pairs of "free" tiles until the board is cleared. A tile is free if it has no tile on top of it and at least one side (left or right) is open.

How to Play

1. Survey the board for matching pairs of free (clickable) tiles.
2. Click one free tile to select it (highlighted).
3. Click a second free tile with the same symbol to remove both from the board.
4. If no matches are available, the game may be stuck — try a new layout.
5. Clear all tiles to win. Your score is the number of matches made.

Rules

• Only "free" tiles can be selected — tiles with no tile on top and at least one open side.
• Tiles match if they show the same symbol.
• Both tiles in a pair must be free to be removed.
• The game is won when all tiles are cleared.

Strategy Tips

• Focus on top layers: Removing upper tiles frees more tiles below.
• Plan ahead: Don't just grab the first match you see — consider which match opens more options.
• Track duplicates: Each symbol appears in pairs. If you see one tile buried, remember where its match is.
• Keep the board balanced: Try not to clear one side while leaving the other stacked high.
• Prioritize trapped tiles: Free tiles that are blocking the most other tiles should be matched first.

Difficulty Levels

• Small: 3 layers, fewer tiles — great for learning.
• Medium: 4 layers — the standard Mahjong Solitaire experience.
• Large: 5 layers — a serious challenge with many buried tiles.
